This qualification applies to building designers who undertake building design projects covered by the Building Code of Australia (BCA),

This qualification is for people wanting to work in the architectural and building design industry, and for those who undertake building design projects covered by the Building Code of Australia (BCA), except Construction Type A buildings.

Students will develop skills in:

  • Preparing design concept sketches, presentation drawings and animations, planning approval drawings and working drawings using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) techniques
  • Design 3 building design projects: a house, townhouses and a medium rise commercial building.
  • Construction methods and materials
  • Building codes and town planning compliance requirements
  • Environmentally Sustainable Design solutions.

Building designers may specialise in residential projects, including new buildings, heritage restorations and additions or renovations or they may also undertake commercial and industrial projects, such as factories, motels, offices, restaurants, retail or service outlets and warehouses.
